Jordan Lockwood (BSc, CPT)

I'm a certified personal trainer and sports-science graduate based in Austin, Texas, and I've spent more than a decade coaching people on the rowing machine - from first-timers to competitive athletes.

I grew up competing in rowing and went on to study sports science at university. After graduating, I earned my personal-training certification and began coaching recreational athletes: people who wanted a low-impact, full-body way to get fit, and who quickly discovered that the rowing machine is one of the best tools for the job.

Rowing Machine Nerd is where I share what I've learned coaching those athletes and training myself. The goal is simple: clear, trustworthy, practical guidance on how to train effectively, row with good technique, and choose the right equipment - explained in plain language, without the hype.

Everything here is grounded in sports science, real coaching experience, and careful research. I write about technique the way I'd teach it in person, and I only recommend approaches I'd give my own clients. When I reference research - such as published calorie-expenditure data - I link to the original source so you can check it yourself.

If you have a question, a different point of view, or a machine you'd like me to look at, I'd genuinely like to hear from you. Reach out through the contact page - I read every message personally.
